The Army Masters retained the Inter Services Championship with two dominat displays, first away to the RAF at RAF Halton and then at Kneller Hall against the Navy.  The matches were played in two very contrasting conditions.  A cold, misty Halton was replaced by bright sunshine and warmth at Kneller Hall the following month.  However in both the games the match pattern was the same.  Solid up front the Army were able to hold their own against both oppositions pack but it was the back line that stole all the headlines with counter attacking rugby that neither the RAF or Navy could match.  Over 50 points in each game told its own story as the oppositions defence were simply no match to the off loading game of the Army Masters.

Army 31 RAF 24

The Army Masters secured the Inter Services Championship following a very comfortable final round victory of the Royal Navy, 69-27, at Kneller Hall.  Prior to that they had beaten the RAF Vultures 31-24 at Aldershot.  Five tries from the Masters saw them take a 31 – 10 lead before two late tries brought the RAF back in to the game at the end.  The late rally by the Vultures may have raised RAF spirits but it was never a match that they were going to win. The Championship victory for the Masters ensured a clean sweep for the Army at the end of season Inter Services, with only the U23XV, before Christmas, not securing a title.
