2018 - Le Crunch - Stu Cross

In our latest photo story, that focuses on players who wear the Army shirt, we feature Capt Stu Cross; a Company 2iC with The 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.

Already a well established player in the Army VIIs side, Stu is looking to make the break through in to the Senior XV and win his first Senior XV cap.  His rugby cv is already impressive and his leadership qualities on the pitch have been utilised both by his Unit team and the Army A side, both of which he has captained; taking 1YORKS to the Army Premiership final last season.  With an extensive VIIs background, including international experience at tournaments in Colorado (Plate Winner at Serevi Rugbytown7s), the European University VIIs Championship and Dubai International Open Championship, Stu brings great ball handling skills and sound defence to his back-row role.   However in striving to win his first full Army cap he knows he plays in a position where the Army have been traditionally strong and he will have to keep producing powerful performances, as he did recently against the French Army, to force himself in to the Inter Services side.  He will, no doubt, call on the experience he gained whilst playing for Wasps A as he seeks to fine tune his game before Andy Sanger makes his final selections.  The goal is tantalisingly close, first the Royal Air Force at Halton and then an opportunity to run out in front of 82,000 at the annual Army v Navy match.

But the competition for places, and the right to wear the famous red jersey at an Inter Services tournament, remains as fierce as ever.
